Took The Midnight Train...
No, no I did not. I did not take the midnight train. I did not take any train. It was on my list. I had this idea that maybe I could ride the train from Tucson to Flagstaff. I hate driving, I figured I'd catch a train, have my dad pick me up at the station in Flagstaff, boom, weekend up north, done.
Nope.
Oh, you can do it. You can get to Flagstaff from Tucson on the train, but that train goes through Los Angeles and takes approximately 33 hours. So that...didn't happen. I am now working on a way to get from here to there using a complicated network of airport shuttles and casino buses. I think I can make it work.
I did ride the modern streetcar around downtown. That was 2 hours of my life I'll never get back. Alas, not a train. Oh well. I didn't accomplish a lot of things on my list but it's okay. Another year, another list. This time I'm only having 20 new things because if I couldn't accomplish 33 in a year, the odds of doing 34 seem pretty bad. Some of the unaccomplished tasks from last year's list are moving over because I do still want to them, and some aren't, because I actually don't care about those things. So that's that.
20 New Things
1. Take a cooking class
2. Sleep in a tree house, teepee, castle, trailer hotel, etc. Something unusual.
3. Go to the batting cages.
4. Volunteer for Habitat for Humanity
5. Learn to paint with watercolors.
6. Stop and feed the ostriches.
7. Ask a stranger to dance.
8. Eat "clean" for at least a week.
9. Take the train
10. Make soft pretzels the real way, using lye.
11. Learn to hand-letter.
12. Read Pride & Prejudice or Sense & Sensibility or another one of those books that every girl but me has read.
13. Grow something edible and eat it.
14. Go to Antelope Canyon.
15. Learn to do the splits.
16. Go to High Tea. Preferably someplace fancy.
17. Take a circus class.
18. Try absinthe.
19. Buy and eat something strange from the Asian supermarket.
20. Host a dinner party.
We'll see how this goes.
